“I love the Gorge because there are so many cool things to do right in my backyard.”
What are you up to these days? Stuff, just a different decade. I’m still keeping the gears turning at Sailworks, making sails, and more recently making heavy equipment covers for Insitu.
How do you see the sport of windsurfing evolving in the next 10 years? I see rekindled youth interest happening now, so it’s a safe bet windsurfing will remain strong going forward. The gear has improved so much it’s hard to see how it can get better, but it will.
Who are your heroes? I admire passion, commitment, respect and gratefulness. Dale Cook is one of my windsurfing heroes.
Tell us about a windsurf-related accomplishment that you’re proud of: That I’m still in the windsurfing business, and loving it, after 30 years!
Do you have a Gorge memory you want to share? I love racing and I’ve won a bunch of windsurfing races in the Gorge over the years but two stand out, 20 years apart – the 1989 Gorge Pro-Am and the 2009 US Nationals.
Have you participated in any CGWA programs or events? Windfest is a fantastic event that I’ve been involved in from the beginning. As a manufacturer it’s a great way to get our products in the hands of interested riders.
Anything else you want to share with us? Let’s go windsurfing!
