+ SUP Regulations – Sign the Petition!

June 15, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · 68 Comments

The Human Powered Watercraft Association (HPWA) needs your help to repeal the current ruling that all SUPs are “vessels” and paddlers must carry or wear a personal flotation devise.  Windsurfing has an exemption that allows the board to serve as the flotation device, and the HPWA is seeking a similar ruling for SUP.

+ Help keep a U.S. beach open to windsurfing

June 15, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · 32 Comments

Please help our friends in San Diego keep their gem at Lake Hodges open to windsurfing.  City and County officials pledged it would reopen after construction; while construction is finished, they appear to be reneging this promise, leaving windsurfing without their well-loved launch.

Print sign and mail.  That’s all you have to do to help keep a U.S. beach open to windsurfing.  Find the petition and more info [here].

What’s going on?

In a nutshell, Washington Department of Transportation is working on the roads to make sure that rocks don’t fall from the cliff into your windshield.  Check out the rock blast video [here].

Where is SR14?

It’s the road that runs from the Hood River bridge to the Hatchery, Cheap Beach, and Swell City in Washington.

There are TWO construction locations:

  • White Salmon (milepost 64): This may impact you if you are driving from the Hood River Bridge to the Hatchery, Swell, or Cheap Beach. The construction location is at the mouth of the White Salmon river.  Click [here] for the detour, to use when the road is closed.
  • Dog Mountain (milepost 54): This construction location may impact you if you are driving along the Washington side from the Hood River bridge to Stevenson or Home Valley.  We recommend taking I-84 in Oregon instead, crossing over to Washington at the Bridge of the Gods, and driving east to Stevenson.  This is about a 25 mile drive.  Click here for a map.

Holiday Schedule

Both construction locations will be open for traffic to pass through on the following holidays:

  • May 22 – White Salmon Spring Fest Parade
  • May 28-31 – Memorial Day weekend
  • June 26 – Stevenson Brews Blues & BBQs
  • July 2-4 – Fourth of July weekend
  • July 10 - White Salmon Art and Wine Fusion
  • July 31 – Stevenson Sportbike NW Rally
  • August 14 – Skamania County Fair
  • August 28 – Home Valley Bigfoot Bash
  • September 3-6 – Labor Day weekend
  • September 11 – Bingen Huckleberry Festival Parade
